The University of Arizona Research Data Center (RDC) will be getting new research computing equipment in spring 2016 and it needs a name. This new processing power will more than triple the high performance computing resources available to all campus researchers and be used for computing sciences, engineering, astronomy, physics, linguistics, medicine, chemistry and biology.

The naming and design contest opens in January so start your creative thinking now.

How do I participate?

Work on your own or in a team of up to three people and come back in January with a name and design concept. The contest application form will be posted Jan. 4, 2016, and entries will be due Jan. 31, 2016. Check back at http://rcgc.arizona.edu/news.

What does the winning team receive?

The winning team will earn the glory of their winning name and design memorialized in the RDC. The winning design will be painted across the server rack doors. Also, each member of the winning team will receive a Lenovo tablet.

Need some inspiration?

What is an appropriate name for all this computing power? What design should greet visitors to the RDC? See TitanNREL PeregrineArgonne MIRAHLRNMagnus for ideas of what other research groups have created. The new cluster in the RDC will have six rack doors in a row, approximately 177"W x 83"H in total. Stop by and take a look at the current RDC facility on the first floor of the Computer Center, Room 120 to see where your design could appear.
